AARP Experience Corps
How they are participating
At AARP Experience Corps, we believe every child has the right to learn to read fluently and to reap the joys and opportunities that literacy provides.
Our evidence-based tutoring and mentoring program guides low-income children in kindergarten through third grade on the path to reading proficiently and confidently.
AARP Experience Corps’s approach is simple, but effective: older adult volunteer members are trained and deployed to high-need public elementary schools, offering small group and one-to-one tutoring that builds literacy skills for Kindergarten through 3rd grade students identified as in need of intervention.
Today, some 2,000 volunteers serve more than 22,000 elementary school students in 19 communities across the United States.
AARP Experience Corps will use Giving Tuesday to enhance our year-end giving campaign by encouraging our online friends to donate, volunteer or participate in our Giving Tuesday conversations via Facebook and Twitter. We will also share testimonials and videos about our program.
