How they are participating

Global Education Fund will be promoting Giving Tuesday on its social media channels to help reach its goal of $120,000 to help ensure that children all over the world are getting a quality education.

Global Education Fund has international programs in Kenya, India, and Guatemala. Below is a description of the Kenya program.
Summary

Help students in Kenya learn and develop leadership, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. Help build on their strengths, perseverance, and personal power to understand, think critically and problem solve some of Kenya's most pressing issues.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Primary school in Kenya is free but you are on your own for high school. Promising students need scholarships to further their education. Rote learning is taught in the classroom so those in school often do not receive a quality education based on what is needed to gain access to the job market or university admission to become leaders and productive members of their communities. Girls particularly are often forced into early marriage, early motherhood or to stay at home and raise siblings.
How will this project solve this problem?

Young Leaders program partners with students the entire four years of high school with a holistic approach to education that includes: scholarships, leadership skills, mentoring, experiential learning and family/community involvement. Girls' unique needs are addressed in a supplemental enrichment program for girls. When a girl in a developing country receives seven or more years of education, she marries four years later and has 2.2 fewer children.
Potential Long Term Impact

Increased graduation from secondary school * Increased knowledge of leadership, critical thinking and problem solving skills * Improved academic achievement and life skills * Increased application of real-life solutions using leadership and critical thinking skills * Improved achievement and performance of girls in school, delayed motherhood and marriage, and completion of secondary school and * Improved preparation for sustainable livelihoods or university achievement.
