We'll be spreading the word to our supporters via e-mail, our web site, Facebook and Twitter that Giving Tuesday is the perfect day to find a way to help a woman in the developing world who is suffering from the child birth injury of obstetric fistula. When a woman's labor becomes obstructed, she is often left with obstetric fistula, which renders her incontinent and leaking wastes. Left untreated, a fistula can ruin a woman’s life: a woman with fistula is often left by her husband, ostracized by her community and left to fend for herself because others cannot stand her smell. However, when she has access to the $450 fistula repair that Fistula Foundation donors provide, a woman’s life is transformed; she no longer has to suffer the shame and embarrassment caused by her incontinence and she can resume living a healthy and productive life.
