How they are participating

Fundraising for Uganda Peace Foundation,an organization that I established when I retired from the National Resistance Army(NRA) now Uganda People's Defense(UPDF)to prevent conflicts/insecurity including terrorism by addressing the root causes which entail poverty coupled with unemployment and other social ills such as undemocratic governance, violation of human rights, ignorance, environmental degradation and HIV/AIDS. "Resolution 1308 adopted by the United Nations Security Council in 2000,recognized the spread of HIV/AIDS and STIs as potential threats to international peace and security and also recommended that HIV prevention be incorporated into all peace keeping initiatives.Security Council Resolution 1325 specifically cited the special concerns of women in relation to HIV/AIDS.Ultimately,as nations attempt to recover from conflict,HIV is a direct threat to both human and national security since the epidemic undermines the economic and social participation of the population during a critical time of national rehabilitation and recovery". The Conflict Prevention Strategy:"In our interconnected world, security now more than ever must be seen as a global public good,"said Peter Van Tuijl,Executive Director of Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict(GPPAC)."The old state -centric,military - focused take on security falls short in addressing complex challenges, like transnational terrorist networks and the social inequalities conducive to conflict. We need a more holistic approach, carried out by different stakeholders, based not only on national security considerations but on what it is that individuals and communities need in order to feel safe". Uganda Peace Foundation needs financial support to implement the following projects: THE VILLAGE EARTH MODEL: This project will be implemented in the Karamoja Region of Uganda to put cattle rustling to an end and cause development in the region and also in the neighboring regions of Acholi,Lango,Teso,Mbale and the district of Sebei. This project is intended to empower one million people in a period of ten years.Later this project will be rolled out to other regions of Uganda.Visit Uganda Peace Foundation website to find out more about the VILLAGE EARTH MODEL: https://sites.google.com/site/peacefoundationorgug MICRO FINANCE PROGRAMME: This programme will be implemented as a national programme.Already 7000 Ugandans have been organized in 42 districts of Uganda in groups of twenties and they have had entrepreneurship training, peace education and awareness about the Millennium Development Goals(MDGs).
