United Way for Southeastern Michigan
How they are participating
United Way for Southeast Michigan is taking on the ambitious fundraising goal of $60,000. We want to use this money to build at least a dozen school gardens throughout Greater Detroit this coming spring – and sustain the other great programs we run to support families. The gardens will serve two main purposes: First, they will help school-age children learn where their food comes from and about the importance of healthy food and nutrition. Second, the gardens will provide an entrepreneurial experience, allowing the students to sell the produce at farmers' stands – and then reinvest those funds back into the gardens, making them self-sustaining.
