How they are participating
We live in the wealthiest nation in the world but right here in the United States, one out of every four children is hungry. For the past 37 years, WhyHunger has been a leader in the movement to end hunger and poverty by connecting people to nutritious, affordable food and by serving as a major supporter for grassroots organizations that inspire self-reliance and community empowerment. Imagine There’s No Hunger is WhyHunger’s annual global campaign, in partnership with Hard Rock International and Yoko Ono Lennon, that aims to change the face of childhood hunger by ensuring that children have immediate access to good food today and for the rest of their lives. Imagine helps children tap into their own power to meet their day-to-day nutritional needs and by engaging them and their families as active participants in growing their own food using sustainable agroecological production methods. Inspired by the late John Lennon’s vision of a world at peace and free from hunger, WhyHunger and its partner organizations have helped communities grow enough food to provide more than 5.5 million meals for children in need from 15 countries around the world! The ability of our partners to meet their communities’ needs is even more necessary this year. Many of WhyHunger’s partners throughout the Tri-State area are currently providing post-disaster relief aid in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy by providing food, water, and critical services to their neighbors and then working in their communities to continue the work of long-term recovery. This relief is important in times of need and these partners on the ground are often the best equipped and most prepared to respond to disaster-related community needs as an extension of the critical work they carry out every day of the year. As Imagine There’s No Hunger is set to launch, we are reminded of the on-going crisis of hunger and poverty that is experienced by far too many people on a daily basis and the crucial role our community partners play in implementing innovative solutions to these problems in the short- and long-term. That is why we are using #GivingTuesday as our platform to launch a social media campaign that allows you to join our fight against hunger and poverty. This holiday season, giving is inevitable but what about giving back? Share with us your vision for a world at peace and free from hunger by using the hashtag #imaginenohunger. Text IMAGINE to 5055 to donate $10 to WhyHunger (www.hungerthon.org/text) or donate online to www.hungerthonstore.com. Give to us and we’ll return the favor – you can receive exclusive signature Imagine There’s No Hunger gifts and bid on specialty auction items. #GivingTuesday is your chance to give back and change the world we live in because not even one person should have to go to sleep hungry.
