#GivingTuesday Partner FAQs
Answer: #GivingTuesday™ (#GT) is a movement to create a national day of giving to kick off the giving season added to the calendar on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The second annual GivingTuesday is on December 3, 2013. In the same way that retail stores take part in Black Friday, we want the giving community to come together for #GivingTuesday. We ask that partners create and commit to a project for/on #GivingTuesday and then help spread the word to their networks.
Answer: Everyone! #GivingTuesday is an initiative to start the giving season and we encourage everyone to be involved with it. However, to be an official partner, you must be a registered non-profit [a 501(c)3 in the United States] with a specific #GivingTuesday initiative, or a for-profit business, school, religious or community group who commit to spearhead a project that will benefit at least one registered charity or non-profit. Families and individuals are encouraged to be generous in whatever ways matter to them, whether that means volunteering at a local charity or donating to a favorite cause.

An example: Your school’s initiative is a canned food drive and students volunteering at a local homeless shelter. Here’s a hint-the more creative, the better! For more ideas, please visit our resources page.
#GT reserves the right, to delete or block any individual, organization or corporation for any reason or for no reason at all, including, but not limited to, any individual or corporation using the logo in a manner inconsistent with the mission of #GivingTuesday™ (such as any use that spreads hateful messages or speech, or promotes a completely unrelated project).
Question: How does my company or organization become an official #GT partner?
Answer: Very easily! Please click here for the partner form. Once you sign up, you will receive a link, username and password that will allow you to go back and make changes to your partner page. Please be aware that once you click ‘submit,’ your page is automatically public.
While you do not have to list your #GT initiative when you initially sign up, please include it as soon as possible. Your partner page is public and people want to see what you’ll be doing for #GT! We ask that partners create an initiative especially for #GT. #GT does not help facilitate initiatives, but offers ideas and resources for partners. However, we do suggest to plan ahead and the more creative, the better!
Question: Can organizations get donations through the #GivingTuesday website?
Answer: No. #GivingTuesday is a movement. We are not an organization and do not accept or distribute donations. All donations need to be made through partner websites. Official partners are responsible for their own fundraising initiatives.
Question: What is a founding partner?
Answer: A founding partner is a select group or companies and organizations that helped create and launch #GT.
Question: Does #GT recommend where to donate or volunteer?
Answer: No. #GT does not recommend, support or endorse any specific organization, company or campaign. We provide tools to see non-profit standings and ratings from partners such as Charity Navigator and Guidestar that enable donors to access relevant information before making a donation. Families and individuals are encouraged to be generous in whatever ways matter to them, whether that means volunteering at a local charity or donating to a favorite cause.
Question: Why should I become a #GT partner?
Answer: In 2012, we had more than 2,500 recognized #GivingTuesday™ partners from all 50 states of the United States. The collective efforts of partners, donors and advocates helped fuel a marked increase in charitable giving on GivingTuesday.
Blackbaud processed over $10 million in online donations on 11/27/12 – a 53% increase when compared to the Tuesday after Thanksgiving the previous year. DonorPerfect recorded a 46% increase in online donations and the average gift increased 25%. More than 50 million people worldwide spread the word about GivingTuesday – resulting in milestone trending on Twitter. Not too shabby, right? #GT helps to raise funds and awareness for important causes everywhere.
Question: How do I make changes to my partner profile page?
Answer: When you signed up, an email was sent to the email address used during registration with the partner site link, a username and password that allows you to go back and make changes to your partner page. If you do not see it right away, please check your spam folder.
Once you log in with the information sent to you confirming your registration, you will be taken directly to your partner’s page. On that page, you will only see your organization. When you scroll over your organization’s name, you will see ‘edit,’ ‘trash’ and ‘view.’
To make updates and edits to your partner page, please click on ‘edit.’ Under ‘Partner Advanced Fields,’ you will see all of the original fields when you initially signed up as a partner.
