Help DC school kids cook, eat, and live healthier lives—in a hands-on teaching kitchen!

We need YOUR help to raise $15,000 to build a state-of-the-art teaching kitchen for the FoodPrints program at School-Within-School, an arts-inspired public elementary school in northeast Washington, DC.

“It’s COOL to eat kale.” That’s what we’re hearing from students at SWS who participate in the food education program, FoodPrints, run by FRESHFARM Markets. Children harvest vegetables in the school garden, learn about the science of the plants and good nutrition, prepare delicious recipes, and eat nutritious food together. School-Within-School has a dedicated classroom for FoodPrints; however, we do not currently have sufficient funds to outfit the classroom and purchase supplies that allow young children safe, hands-on experiences with cooking.
The funds generated from this Giving Tuesday will help buy a dishwasher, a countertop display mirror, a large kitchen island with child-height counters, shelving with grow lights to begin plants (for our school garden) from seeds indoors, an indoor composting unit, and high-quality instruction for students grades PreK3 through 3rd grade in the teaching kitchen.
