"Resolution 1308 adopted by the United Nations Security Council in 2000,recognized the spread of HIV/AIDS and STIs as potential threats to international peace and security and also recommended that HIV prevention be incorporated into all peace keeping initiatives.Security Council Resolution 1325 specifically cited the special concerns of women in relation to HIV/AIDS.Ultimately,as nations attempt to recover from conflict,HIV is a direct threat to both human and national security since the epidemic undermines the economic and social participation of the population during a critical time of national rehabilitation and recovery". The Conflict Prevention Strategy:"In our interconnected world,security now more than ever must be seen as a global public good,"said Peter Van Tuijl,Executive Director of Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict(GPPAC)."The old state -centric,military - focused take on security falls short in addressing complex challenges,like transnational terrorist networks and the social inequalities conducive to conflict.We need a more holistic approach,carried out by different stakeholders,based not only on national security considerations but on what it is that individuals and communities need in order to feel safe". Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative

At the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative, we are grateful to be involved with many caring individuals, families, organizations and medical teams around the world who are dealing with rare cancers called sarcomas. We are thankful that they have shared their stories, their experiences, their volunteer time, and their wisdom with us. We are also grateful to those who have generously contributed to our peer-reviewed Research Grants Program. Together we have been able to fund more than $2.3 million in promising sarcoma research studies. Several of these studies are unique collaborative efforts that bring together sarcoma research teams from around the world.
On Giving Tuesday, we will be thanking everyone who has helped us in our mission and inviting them to join us in texting a donation for sarcoma research. In the coming year, we are determined to fund new research that can better the lives of countless people who are facing rare cancers, both now and in the future.
