In a heartwarming display of empathy, students at Bamburi Great News School took the initiative to support youth who were incarcerated. In collaboration with GivingTuesday Spark Kenya, led by Franklin Okello, the students assembled and distributed care packages filled with toiletry essentials, sports equipment, playing cards, and snacks at the Bostal Correctional Service Juvenile Institution Centre.
Renson Mirodho, the Head Teacher of Bamburi Great News School, shared an inspiring dimension to the story. The idea to bring care packages to their fellow youth emerged from the students themselves, a powerful act of solidarity. It not only instilled the value of kindness but also transformed their perceptions about life.
Superintendent Mwangombe also shed light on the significant role that such donations play in connecting the young inmates with the outside world. Some of the incarcerated youth’s families live far away, making regular visits challenging. These gifts not only provided essential items but also facilitated meaningful connections.
