Fostering Generosity: Training the Next Generation of Leaders in Burkina Faso

23 Sep 2024 by GivingTuesday

By Madelaine Díaz, Program Manager

In Burkina Faso, passionate young leaders are gearing up to ignite a wave of radical generosity across their communities. Each leader is excited to tackle critical issues such as education, health, environmental protection, and women’s empowerment. Equipped with a fierce commitment to advancing women’s rights, supporting female entrepreneurs, and combating gender-based violence; leaders in Burkina Faso are poised to make a significant impact. Aristide, GivingTuesday Burkina Faso Leader, hopes to further develop the skills of young leaders in the area through comprehensive training programs tailored to their unique needs.

The program covers key topics like leadership and communication, providing techniques for effectively mobilizing communities. Leaders also learn the intricacies of event planning, equipping them with the skills to organize community events that promote generosity. In today’s digital age, mastering social media is crucial, so the training includes how to leverage online platforms to raise awareness and engage a wider audience. The curriculum also covers fundraising and resource management techniques, equipping leaders with the tools to secure support for their initiatives. Moreover, the program emphasizes the importance of volunteering and community engagement, teaching participants how to encourage and manage volunteer efforts in their local areas.

These young leaders come from diverse regions across Burkina Faso, including Ouagadougou (Centre), Bobo-Dioulasso (Hauts-Bassins), Koudougou (Centre-Ouest), Fada N’Gourma (East), Ouahigouya (North), and Kaya (Centre Nord). This geographic diversity ensures a wide-reaching impact, as they bring their unique perspectives and experiences to the table.

To spread the message of generosity, these leaders plan to create local generosity clubs, encouraging the formation of groups dedicated to acts of kindness and giving. They aim to share their experiences and knowledge with other young people, serving as mentors who inspire and guide the next generation. By partnering with schools and universities, they will organize workshops and discussions, sparking conversations that inspire their peers to join in their mission.

“[Leaders] aim to share their experiences and knowledge with other young people, serving as mentors who inspire and guide the next generation.”

Between now and GivingTuesday, the cohort will stay connected through online discussion groups, enabling them to share ideas and updates regularly. They will also hold virtual meetings to maintain momentum and stay aligned with their goals. A Reflection Committee will be formed, allowing each volunteer to focus on their areas of interest and contribute to research and fundraising efforts for generosity activities.

These young leaders are driven by a desire to see real improvements in their communities. They are eager to learn new skills and value the recognition of their efforts at both local and national levels. In Burkina Faso, where community and solidarity are cherished, this GivingTuesday initiative provides a platform for young people to express themselves, showcase their impact, and connect with like-minded individuals.
