Between back-to-back meetings and tight deadlines, it’s easy to feel like there’s no time in the day for anything extra. But generosity doesn’t have to be time-consuming—it can fit right into the small moments of your day.
This week, the GivingTuesday communications team decided to put this idea into action. In between meetings, we took a few minutes to write postcards to seniors, as part of Letters Against Isolation’s mission to combat senior loneliness.
Founded in 2020 by Shreya and Saffron, Letters Against Isolation was created to spread joy and connection to seniors facing isolation. What started as a way to support their own grandparents during the pandemic has grown into a global movement. Today, their volunteers have sent thousands of handwritten letters and cards to seniors in the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia.
In just a short break during our workday, we were able to write 30 postcards that will soon be delivered to seniors, bringing a little extra kindness to their day. It was a simple yet meaningful way to give back—no big event or elaborate planning required.
Ways to Be Generous (No Matter How Busy You Are!)
Inspired to fit generosity into your day? Here are a few ways you can make an impact in just a few minutes:
- Send a kind message. Write a letter to a senior through organizations like Letters Against Isolation or send an uplifting message or text to a friend or family member who needs an extra boost.
- Donate small but meaningful. Set up a recurring donation of just a few dollars to a nonprofit you love.
- Support a cause with your voice. Share a nonprofit’s campaign on social media, sign a petition, or leave a supportive comment on your favorite organization’s post to boost visibility.
- Share your skills. Offer a few minutes of advice or mentorship to someone in your network.
- Leave a positive review. Help a small business by leaving a kind review online—it costs nothing and goes a long way!
Generosity doesn’t have to wait for a special occasion. You can weave it into your everyday life. So, how will you be generous this week?
