GivingTuesday is almost here and it’s time to put the finishing touches on your game plan for the world’s biggest generosity movement. To help you get ready, we’ve put together a quick guide to ensure you’re set up for success on the big day!
1. Night Before & Morning of Checklist
Night Before Prep:
Verify All Platforms: Ensure your donation links, website, email, and social media pages are functioning properly.
Test Your Donation Page: Check that it’s mobile-friendly, loads quickly, and works smoothly by making a test donation to experience the process yourself.
Update Your Website: Include a GivingTuesday banner or section on your website’s homepage with a clear call-to-action to donate.
Confirm Scheduled Content: Review your social media posts and emails to ensure they’re ready to go and align with your messaging.
2. Morning Kickoff
Post an Early Kickoff Message: Announce the start of GivingTuesday on social media to build excitement and engage your audience right away.
Highlight a Volunteering Event: Share details about a specific volunteering opportunity happening day-of that aligns with your mission and how supporters can participate. Include the event’s time, location, and how their involvement will make an impact.
Send an Impactful Email:
– Share a compelling story or example of how donations make a difference.
– Include a direct link to your donation page to make giving easy and accessible.
Craft an Attention-Grabbing Subject Line: Examples include:
– “Today is the Day! Double Your Impact”
– “Just 24 Hours to Reach Our GivingTuesday Goal!”
Add a Sense of Urgency: Remind supporters that GivingTuesday is a one-day event and encourage them to act quickly to make a difference.
3. Engage Throughout the Day
Share Updates and Milestones:
– Post progress updates throughout the day (e.g., “We’re 50% to our goal!”).
– Highlight stories of generosity, impact, or testimonials to inspire others.
– Encourage your supporters to share their GivingTuesday actions by using #GivingTuesday and by tagging your organization.
Incorporate Personal Touches:
– Record a short video message from a staff member or beneficiary sharing why donations are needed, and post it on social media or in an email.
– Share behind-the-scenes moments, like your team preparing for the day or volunteers in action.
Keep the Momentum Going:
– Use specific milestones to encourage action (e.g., “We just need $XX to hit our goal!”).
– Encourage supporters to share your posts and spread the word to amplify impact.
Tag @GivingTuesday and Use #GivingTuesday: Increase visibility and engagement—your post could be featured on our socials!
4. Evening Wrap-Up
Send a Final Thank-You Email or Post: Thank everyone for their participation and celebrate the impact of the day.
Last Push for Donations: Make a final call for donations or involvement before the day ends.
5. Post-GivingTuesday Gratitude & Engagement Follow-Up
Send a Follow-up Email: The day after GivingTuesday, send a heartfelt thank-you email to your supporters, sharing key impact stats and celebrating the difference they’ve made. Encourage them to continue their generosity with end-of-year giving opportunities.
Share the Impact on Socials: Highlight the difference their donation made, such as “Thanks to you, we raised $5,000 to provide meals for families in need!”
Invite Ongoing Connection: Encourage donors to stay involved by providing links to your newsletter sign-up page or social media channels, helping them stay connected with your ongoing work.
GivingTuesday is all about celebrating generosity, big or small. With this game plan, you’ll be ready to expand your reach and increase the effectiveness of your plans and campaigns. As the day approaches, keep building excitement for your audience with posts and updates across your social media, newsletters, and website—and don’t forget to tag @GivingTuesday and use #GivingTuesday on social media!
