#GivingTuesday Global Leaders Meet in the Dominican Republic for the Annual Global Summit

7 May 2018 by GivingTuesday

From April 30 – May 3, the #GivingTuesday global leaders convened in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic for the 4th annual #GivingTuesday Global Summit. The Summit is an annual event that brings together individuals and organizations from around the world who are leading #GivingTuesday national movements in their countries. With 46 countries and counting, the Global Summit is the main event each year for leaders to come together and share ideas for #GivingTuesday.

54 leaders from 38 countries across Asia, Africa, Europe, and North and South America attended the Summit. New to the Summit were representatives from Ukraine, Finland, Poland, France, and Portugal – the most recent countries to adopt #GivingTuesday.

The global leaders participated in a number of workshops and exercises to discuss the future of the movement in their countries and as a global initiative. From data and measurement, to civic campaigns, to awareness and engagement, leaders shared experiences and tips from their country campaigns.

A special highlight of the Summit was a presentation by #GivingTuesday founder Henry Timms on his book, New Power, which launched this past month. Participants also organized regional discussions to share ideas for stronger collaboration across regions.

In addition, the Latin American leaders participated in a two-day data meet up to discuss measurement practices in their countries and across the region. This was the first of a series of regional data events that will take place around the world, including in Barcelona, Moscow, Bangkok, and more. The goal is for global leaders to work together to share best practices to measure the impact of #GivingTuesday and to learn more about giving trends and collaboration across borders, currencies, and cultures.

In addition to workshops, the global leaders got to experience some of the culture and beauty of the Dominican Republic.

We especially thank AFS Dominican Republic – the global leader in the Dominican Republic – for hosting us and for all that they do to grow #UnDiaParaDarRD!
