GivingTuesday leaders of DoaSaoJosé, the #GivingTuesday community campaign for the city of São José dos Campos, in Brazil, hosted an outdoor festival for the local residents to get to know the local nonprofits. On a sunny Sunday in November 2022, 20 nonprofits hosted booths at Parque Vicentina Aranha to share their missions, activities like a children’s choir and yoga practices, and ways for participants to connect with the organizations to volunteer and give back. “The Festival helped with the promotion of our work, reaching women who might be in need of support as well as local potential supporters. The city also helped us by giving clothes, food, and furniture that will be donated to people in need,” said social worker Lis Caterine, who hosted a booth at the festival. “Doa São José is one of the oldest community campaigns that we have in Brazil, and it is unique because it’s led by the city’s social fund together with the local organizations,” says Caroline Farias, leader of #GivingTuesday in Brazil. “It is making a huge difference in the city bringing people close to the organizations, helping them to engage more volunteers, partners, and supporters.”
